27 And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites in all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with gladness, with thanksgivings and with singing, with cymbals, harps, and lyres.

44 On that day men were appointed over the storerooms, the contributions, the firstfruits, and the tithes, to gather into them the portions required by the Law for the priests and for the Levites according to the fields of the towns, for Judah rejoiced over the priests and the Levites who ministered.

-성벽 봉헌의 준비 (12:27-43)

    성벽 봉헌은 성전 봉헌에 이은 또 하나의 큰 사건이었다. 어떤 의미에서는 성전 봉헌을 완성하는 일이었다. 봉헌식을 위해 각처에서 레위인들과 노래하는 자들이 자원하여 예루살렘에 모였다. 제사장들과 레위인들은 몸을 정결케 하고 백성과 성문과 성도 정결케 했다. 두 무리로 나누어 예루살렘 성 전체를 돌면서 하나님께 감사하고 찬양했다. 하나님께서 이성벽을 쌓게 하셨으며, 이것이 단지 살 터전이 마련된 것에 그치지 않고, 이제 이 성전을 떠났던 하나님의 영광이 돌아오고, 침묵하던 하나님의 말씀이 선포되며, 하나님의 통치가 실현될 것을 믿고 확신하는 찬양이었다.

-추가적인 규례 : 제사장과 레위인의 몫

    제사장과 레위인은 토지를 소유할 수 없고 백성이 그들이 생계를 책임져야 했다. 느헤미야는 율법이 정한대로 백성이 드린 헌물을 잘 관리하고 분배하도록 사람을 세운다. 백성은 제사장과 레위인들의 섬기에 감사하여 즐거이 드렸고, 느헤미야는 날마다 그들의 쓸것을 채워주었다. 교회가 하나님의 일을 위해 세운 사역자들에게 고마워하고 즐거이 쓸 것을 ‘적절히’채우는 것은 당연한 것이다.

과연 우리는 무엇을 기뻐하는가? 내가 하는 일이 잘되고, 평안하며, 돈이 생기고, 건강한 것을 기뻐하는 것은 세상의 방식이다. 우리는 하나님의 영광을 바라보며 기뻐하고, 하나님의 선포되어지는 말씀으로 기뻐하며, 하나님의 통치가 실현될 때 기뻐하는 사람들이다.

사역자들에게 고마워하고 즐거이 쓸 것을 적절히 채우는 것은 성도들의 몫이라면, 사역자들은 율법이 정한대로 백성들을 하나님의 교훈과 말씀으로 양육해야한다.
