1 Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the people of Israel were assembled with fasting and in sackcloth, and with earth on their heads.

1 וּבְיוֹם֩ עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֜ה לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַזֶּ֗ה נֶאֶסְפ֤וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּצ֣וֹם וּבְשַׂקִּ֔ים וַאֲדָמָ֖ה עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

3 이 날에 낮 사분지 일은 그 처소에 서서 그 하나님 여호와의 율법책을 낭독하고 그 하나님 여호와께 경배하는데0% 차이

3 And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God for a quarter of the day; for another quarter of it they made confession and worshiped the LORD their God.

4 On the stairs of the Levites stood Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani; and they cried with a loud voice to the LORD their God.

4 וַיָּ֜קָם עַֽל־מַֽעֲלֵ֣ה הַלְוִיִּ֗ם יֵשׁ֨וּעַ וּבָנִ֜י קַדְמִיאֵ֧ל שְׁבַנְיָ֛ה בֻּנִּ֥י שֵׁרֵבְיָ֖ה בָּנִ֣י כְנָ֑נִי וַֽיִּזְעֲקוּ֙ בְּק֣וֹל גָּד֔וֹל אֶל־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃

5 또 레위 사람 예수아와 갓미엘과 바니와 하삽느야와 세레뱌와 호디야와 스바냐와 브다히야는 이르기를 너희 무리는 마땅히 일어나 영원부터 영원까지 계신 너희 하나님 여호와를 송축할찌어다 주여 주의 영화로운 이름을 송축하올 것은 주의 이름이 존귀하여 모든 송축이나 찬양에서 뛰어남이니이다0% 차이

5 또 레위 사람 예수아와 갓미엘과 바니와 하삽느야와 세레뱌와 호디야와 스바냐와 브다히야는 이르기를 너희 무리는 마땅히 일어나 영원부터 영원까지 계신 너희 하나님 여호와를 송축할지어다 주여 주의 영화로운 이름을 송축하올 것은 주의 이름이 존귀하여 모든 송축이나 찬양에서 뛰어남이니이다3% 차이

5 Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, “Stand up and bless the LORD your God from everlasting to everlasting. Blessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

5 וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ הַלְוִיִּ֡ם יֵשׁ֣וּעַ וְ֠קַדְמִיאֵל בָּנִ֨י חֲשַׁבְנְיָ֜ה שֵׁרֵֽבְיָ֤ה הֽוֹדִיָּה֙ שְׁבַנְיָ֣ה פְתַֽחְיָ֔ה ק֗וּמוּ בָּרֲכוּ֙ אֶת־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם מִן־הָעוֹלָ֖ם עַד־הָעוֹלָ֑ם וִיבָֽרְכוּ֙ שֵׁ֣ם כְּבוֹדֶ֔ךָ וּמְרוֹמַ֥ם עַל־כָּל־בְּרָכָ֖ה וּתְהִלָּֽה׃

6 오직 주는 여호와시라 하늘과 하늘들의 하늘과 일월 성신과 땅과 땅 위의 만물과 바다와 그 가운데 모든 것을 지으시고 다 보존하시오니 모든 천군이 주께 경배하나이다0% 차이

6 אַתָּה־ה֣וּא יְהוָה֮ לְבַדֶּךָ֒ אַתְּ עָשִׂ֡יתָ אֶֽת־הַשָּׁמַיִם֩ שְׁמֵ֨י הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם וְכָל־צְבָאָ֗ם הָאָ֜רֶץ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֤ר עָלֶ֨יהָ֙ הַיַּמִּים֙ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּהֶ֔ם וְאַתָּ֖ה מְחַיֶּ֣ה אֶת־כֻּלָּ֑ם וּצְבָ֥א הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם לְךָ֥ מִשְׁתַּחֲוִֽים׃

8 You found his heart faithful before you, and made with him the covenant to give to his offspring the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, and the Girgashite. And you have kept your promise, for you are righteous.

-금식성회 (9:1-8)

    초막절 집회가 끝난 직후 백성들은 곧바로 금식 성회를 개최한다. 그들은 느헤미야와 에스라의 권면에 따라 하나님을 기뻐하는 시간을 가진 후 이제 자신들과 조상들의 죄를 자복한다. 백성들은 다 같이 모여 금식하며 굵은 베옷을 입고 티끌을 무릅쓴다. 굵은 베옷을 입고 티끌을 무릎쓰는 행동은 극도의 슬픔을 표현하는 이스라엘의 방식이었다. 이것은 모두 백성들의 자발적인 행동이었다. 회복의 시작은 회개이다. 새로운 시작은 돌아옴으로 부터 시작된다.

    그리고 이들은 간절하고 진실하였다. 굵은 베옷을 입고 티끌을 무릎쓰며 극도의 슬픔으로 금식을 하였으며, 3시간 동안이나 서서 하나님의 말씀을 들었다. 말씀에 대한 갈급함과 하나님의 뜻을 찾으려는 열정을 보여준다. 

    나는 과연 얼마나 하나님 앞에 자발적으로, 간절하게, 진실되게 나아가는가… 하나님 앞에 내 죄 때문에 슬피 울며 기도한 적이 얼마나 오래되었는지… 초심으로 돌아가자… 눈물로 기도하자… 말씀을 읽는데 미쳐야 산다….
